The Directorate of Agribusiness Development (DABD) was established in 2007 with the major mandate of supporting startup companies in agriculture and also commercializing the technologies developed by the University. The DABD strives to serve as a one stop solution to all the business needs of agribusiness firms and entrepreneurs who are interested in agriculture and allied activities.
The growth and development of a nation is accelerated by the extent of innovation and entrepreneurship. Einstein stated that, “the significant problems we have cannot be solved at the same level of thinking with which we created them”. Out of box solutions will go a long way in transforming the status of various stakeholders in agriculture. Entrepreneurship enables new ways of using resources leading to new production frontiers. Therefore, youth, women, farmers and farm graduates have to be motivated to become entrepreneurs and they should supported by suitable Capacity Building Programme and Business Incubation services. The Directorate of Agribusiness Development (DABD) is focusing on the aspects and several incubatees have developed new products and also won awards. Besides DABD is also implementing Venture Capital Scheme (within TNAU), Institutional Development Plan, Unnat Bharat Abhiyan 2.0 and Executive Development Programmes which promote Skill development, Employability, Entrepreneurship and Rural development. Directorate of Agribusiness Development is also a single window for technology commercialization and consultancy from TNAU. I foresee a greater role for this Directorate in future and encourage all stakeholders to effectively utilize the services of this Directorate.
